Clarke County Sheriff's Office

"Sheriff's Response to the Media"

September 17, 2007

Good afternoon Joe,

I received your email from my public information officer inquiring of my intent for re-election to the Office of Sheriff. I must say that I am elated about the upcoming election in 2008 as I continue to work diligently in seeking ways to serve the citizens of Athens-Clarke County. I am proud of our goal to seek continual progress as we strive to stay on the cutting edge of professionalism. One of our most recent accomplishments is achieving the goal of obtaining our State Law Enforcement Certification. As of July 2007, the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office is one of only ten of the159 sheriff’s offices throughout the state of Georgia to successfully obtain this certification. This is a small example of our diligence and commitment to excellence.

Joe, my platform for the upcoming election will be forthcoming as we draw closer to the 2008 election. My focus right now is to continue to meet the present demands of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, and to continue to seek better ways to serve the citizens of our great community. Once again, it’s up to the people to decide who they desire to be their sheriff. As I have mentioned many times, this office is not about me, but it’s about making a difference in our community.

Thank you for your inquiry as I trust the Athens Banner Herald to be wise, fair, and accurate in their delivery of balanced facts to the citizens of Athens-Clarke County.

Sincerely,

Ira Edwards, Jr.
Sheriff
Clarke County Sheriff’s Office
