The Clarke County Jail recently held a ceremony to recognize GED graduates. Three inmates passed the exam and received their diploma during the most recent testing session. Seven inmates were recognized for passing the exam at jail testing sessions in 2008. Three classes are held weekly for inmates desiring to further their education. Research indicates that individuals who obtain a diploma while incarcerated are much less likely to return to jail. Instruction and testing is provided by Athens Technical College.
