Sheriff Ira Edwards, Jr.
graduated from the 239th session FBI National Academy in
Quantico, Virginia on December 11, 2009. The 239th session
consisted of 266 men and women
from 49 states. Included in the class were members from 27
international countries. Sheriff
Edwards graduated with a 4.0 G.P.A. and was selected by his
peers to serve on the silent auction committee in which they
raised over $13,000.00 to benefit two non-profit law
enforcement memorial organizations.
Internationally known for its
academic excellence, the National Academy Program, held
at the FBI Academy, offers 11 weeks of advanced investigative,
management, and fitness
training for selected officers having proven records as
professionals within their agencies. On
average these officers have 19 years of law enforcement
experience and usually return to their
agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
FBI Director Robert Mueller
was the keynote speaker. Sheriff Edwards joins the 43,230
graduates of the FBI Academy since it began in July 1935. Of
this number 25,718 are still active in law enforcement work.
